Lucid Technologies provided real-time tracking and generative content systems for grime artist Skepta during his headline set at Field Day Festival. For the headliner’s show, we installed our BlackTrax solution to be used for lighting tracking and to provide positional data for generative Notch graphics.
The BlackTrax system included 12 cameras which provided tracking coverage for the full stage and two stringers which were discreetly sewn into Skepta’s hoodie. The nature of festival sets makes for a very short amount of time for changeover between acts. During the changeover our team were able to re-calibrate the BlackTrax system in under 8 minutes and were ready to go in under 10 minutes. The lighting team had control of a series of BlackTrax Chapters which allowed them to cycle through various tracking looks from their control system, they could also turn tracking on and off just as simply.
In addition to lighting, tracking data was also sent to our Disguise GX2 media server rack rendered Notch graphics that responded to the position of Skepta in realtime. This combined with the lighting tracking created a ubiquitous link between the onstage performer and all of the visual & lighting effects happening around him.
